The DetroitYES Project began in 1997 with the launch
of The
Fabulous Ruins of Detroit tour. The post-industrial ruins of Detroit were photographed in their most majestic moments to portray their poignant beauty and
power, and accompanied with brief comments of their significance.
The goal was to give rise to the question of "how this could have happened?" In 1999 the DetroitYES forum was started to seek solutions and answer the questions. What went wrong? How can we fix it? Where do we go from here?

Growing from the original Fabulous Ruins of Detroit tour, subsequent tours have been added. These appear on the left of this page starting from the most recently added tour and working backward through the years.
An outpouring of emotion in the form of thousands of emails followed the 1997 publication of the Fabulous Ruins of Detroit and gave rise to the DetroitYES Project. Let's not wallow in the past; let's do something about it was the idea. Let's unite and elevate our great international metropolis.
To that end, DetroitYES forum was created in 1999 to discuss our challenges by asking, "Detroit, what went wrong, how can we fix it, and where do we go from here?"
