If the watches are important to you, spend the money and get them fixed properly. As far as watch repair goes, you definitely get what you pay for.

I've had a couple of heirloom watches refurbed by Metals in Time in Birmingham. Yes, they are expensive, but they do a phenomenal job. I've had a friend go to a cheaper place in Royal Oak and they *wrecked* his dad's prized antique diving watch.
