Default Constitutional Rights Lawyer Michael Ratner: Failed Occupy Wall Street Evacuation Ord

Speaking from Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan, attorney Michael Ratner of the Center for Constitutional Rights says New York City’s efforts to displace Occupy Wall Street protesters in order to clean the park violates their First Amendment rights and would have led to a major confrontation. "Apart from the illegality of it, it was just too massive," Ratner says. "It would have been a bloodbath. The idea that they were going to come in here when there were thousands of people all over the place, union people everywhere, they could not have successfully closed this park down... It’s too big now. This park is becoming a permanent feature of the next generation of protests." Ratner was a co-signer of a letter sent last night from the Occupy Wall Street Legal Working Group to Brookfield Properties, who must maintain the private park for public use, that claimed the enforcement action it requested to New York City in order to clean the park raised serious First Amendment and other legal concerns, and warned that police action in the park without a prior court order would be unconstitutional and unlawful. We also speak with an Occupy Wall Street organizer about plans for a global day of action tomorrow, October 15, called "United for #GlobalChange."

The awesome moment when 5,000 protesters defended their right to OCCUPY WALL STREET!
    From ground zero.

It sounds as though they have now grown to require five layers of human relays in their "mikecheck" crowdnet.

The 99 Percenters will stay in Zucotti Park so that our voices shall be heard to those fat cats and pigs Wall Street. Corporations will not get away by asking Congress for more money while the proletariats get absolutely nothing but the bill from our 1040s. Zucotti Park is our holy ground and the foundation our new city and socialist government of the United States. We will not be moved until corporations and governments give up their relationships ending plutomony and other kleptocracies. My conrads in the all socialist unions. Rise, resist and defend the real American Dream. We must save this free nation from becoming a corporation. We will not be slaves to them anymore.

Invert the second graph about the X-axis, subtract the percentages from 100% and we see what happened to the bottom 99% [[the vast majority) of us:

For the most recent videos, enter the search term "occupy" into video.google.com then be sure to click "Sorted by date" in the left column.

You'll get some amateur junk but you'll also get minute-by-minute worldwide first-hand coverage.

Browse over Federal Budget Spending, Deficits, the National Debt, and Social Security
and see where our money has been and will be spent. Notice that if the Class Haters, led by the WH, could take ALL the American Billionaires wealth [[Not just extra taxes) it still wouldn't make a dent in the National Debt.
Also see how much we spend on Health and Human Services [[income redistribution) and Social Security. I think to start to make a dent in the problem we should cancel all Wars, tax people on their redistributed income [[to make it fair), shoot everybody when they reach 65 [['cept me), and of course don't carry a BA Debit Card after Jan 2012.

Default Occupy Wall Street Protesters Arrested For Attempted Bank Account Closing - Citi Bank

Security locked Citibank customers inside as they arrested 23 #OccupyWallStreet protesters for attempting to close their bank accounts during a mass public action this afternoon....

The Wall Street Journal has confirmed the arrests. According to their report, 24 people were arrested. The protesters who tried to close their accounts were asked to leave by CitiBank and when they refused, they were arrested for trespassing. Some were arrested outside the bank for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

... To those of you hearing reports of a standoff and arrests at Chase Bank at Astor Place, our photographer on the scene says about 40 protesters talked about getting arrested and had a brief sit-in before getting up at the last second and avoiding arrest.

Occupy Movement News Update of the Day: Occupy Santa Cruz protesters who attempted to close their Bank of America accounts were denied service last week because, according to the branch manager, "you can not be a protester and a customer at the same time."...

24 Occupy Wall Street demonstrators were arrested yesterday, reportedly while attempting to discontinue their relationship with Citibank....

In related news, at least 42 people were arrested at last night's Take Times Square convergence, which was attended by thousands. Hundreds of protesters were arrested in solidarity demonstrations around the country, including as many as 175 people in Chicago's Congress Plaza.

Some 1,600 cities worldwide held Global Change protests yesterday, joining a movement that will mark its one-month anniversary tomorrow.

This might just be the bank manager winging it but if the bank has no right to deny the return of it's customers' money, it smells like theft or at least illegal adverse pocession. Who would want to keep savings in any bank which arbitrarily seizes it's customers money? I once had Anchor Bank, of Madison WI, pull something similar on me. Anchor delayed the release of my savings account. I never opened an account with Anchor Bank again.

Here's a couple more videos about the issue of theft. The second shows an attorney giving some very practical advice to protesters. The bottom line is that even the police do not have the right to steal citizens' property.

    Seriously?

You can be arrested for just closing your bank account? And isn't a bank supposed to close a customer's bank account when the customer requests they do so [[it's their money)?

Hell, where do I go to chip in on these people's bail?

The 99 Percenters have the constitutional right to close their accounts in their so-called Banks. Go my conrads! close your bank accounts. Go to your socialist credit unions and start your account there. Let the banks fail for their own greed. Don't stop until everyone's account is gone. We will shut down corporate America. and restore the United States back to the days our forefathers with strong pure democracy and socialist action.

I was reading about the movement in Britain.... it seems that the protesters have congregated around St. Paul's Cathedral... which is in the heart of the business district in London. The police were moving in to remove them... when the Dean of St. Paul's told the police to back off. It seems that St. Paul's owns all the land around:the cathedral, and traditionally the church has been a sanctuary for the less fortunate.... so in essence they told the police to scram.... which they did. Now in gratitude, the protesters are welcome to camp out around the cathedral, as long as they don't become a nuisance to tourists and churchgoers.

My fear is a repeat of the words to the right of the last time it hit 23%. Too much power and money in the hands of too few creates all the same problems these guys fear in socialism and communism. Mainly a lack of motivation because of a frustration with the lack of any meaningful incentives.
