If Warren bid for the olympics people here would bitch.

I don't know why this is so hard for some people to understand. Detroit is about the worst major city in the US and Canada. Maybe we should elect a cheerleader as mayor to tell us everything will be fine and promise a grand future. Maybe Tony Robbins is looking to go into politics.

You cannot say with definitiveness that Detroit is the "worst" major city in the US and Canada. But, Detroit is the most dysfunctional city in the US and Canada. Our sport teams, the museums and cultural institutions, the architecture of its skyscrapers and housing stock, its non-dramatic weather, inexpensiveness, and its history make Detroit one of the best cities in the US and Canada. It's abandonment, lack of transit options, urban blight, crime, racism, and anti-regionalism make it one of the most pathetic excuses for a city/metro area. Those things however can be rectified and healed. To call it the "worst" though, is a misnomer.

I accept Detroit's failures for what they are, but they don't define my love for the city. You see Detroit like most suburbanites, crime, blight, and poverty PERIOD. But there is more to that. There is crime, there is blight, and there is poverty. However people live there who don't engage in crime, who don't add to the blight [[rather they fight it), and who work a liveable job/career and that's the part of Detroit is rarely shown. I want a pragmatic leader who says, "Look, these problems exists but there are things we can do rectify the situation."

I don't get some people who want to see Detroit die. What do they expect? A great migration of people who live there now into the suburbs and build a gate around the city and close it off like it's Chernobyl? People live there. We need to restructure the city so that it can be liveable and manageable again. It's not like the cartographers are waiting to scrub "DETROIT" off their maps. It's not going anywhere, stop acting like there's a plan to rid it.

I don't get why some people want to step out of reality. We've been hearing this revival story since the 70's. It started with the RenCen, then Joe Louis, the People Mover, Comerica Tower, Casinos, Stadiums etc and the city is worse off 40 years later. Quit telling us about Detroit's revival. We've heard it over and over and over.
