I loved to eat freshly ground beef straight from the mincer. Totally raw. Mum would smack me and call me an animal.

Sounds like Kibbee or some stuff my brother the butcher used to make when he lived and worked in Rogers City. Chopped beef with a ton of chopped onion, salt and pepper. They used to sell it by the pound at the IGA he worked in and ate it on crackers. No one EVER cooked it.
Still made to this day at Plath's Meats and IGA in Rogers City. Referred to as "chopped beef". Tastes great on a Ritz crackerSounds like Kibbee or some stuff my brother the butcher used to make when he lived and worked in Rogers City. Chopped beef with a ton of chopped onion, salt and pepper. My brother was the butcher at that IGA [[I think the same name, but not sure) from 1968 until around 1976. He made a ton of chopped beef. I went Rogers every summer for 10 yrs. A lot of diving off that raft in the harbor.
Shocked to see anyone here knowing about Plath's Meats in Rogers City. I lived up there for the majority of my high school years in the Mid-90s. Plath's has the best smoked pork loin and bratwurst. I am sure those are not good for you in the least.
My brother, who lived on Michigan up toward the hill, lived there for about 10 yrs and worked at the IGA, which I think used to be on Erie St east of 3rd. I can't remember who owned it back then, though. I spent a lot of my teen summers up there. Fun times
I lived at the top of the hill at the SE corner of 6th and Ontario. The IGA was in the plaza at 3rd and Erie but was on the east side of the plaza at 2nd. It was Mr. Ed's or Mr. Bill's IGA, I cannot remember which I just remember laughing at the name. It is now a Save-a-lot.
I think Ed was my brother's boss, so...I lived at the top of the hill at the SE corner of 6th and Ontario. The IGA was in the plaza at 3rd and Erie but was on the east side of the plaza at 2nd. Oh yes. I have a favorite middle-east rest in Dearborn and the last time I was there they asked me to try a raw meat item [[Kibbee) that looked great but I just couldn't do it......
Cook my meat please!
My ex-husband's grandma made kibbee - it was good. Not that i trust anyone but grandma with it and she is long gone.
I remember the Pop Rocks candy didn't 'pop' as much after rumor got out that Mikey from Life cereal died from drinking it with Coke.
He was even un-retired to put down the rumor. But those and pop bottle caps were still the best. Is Leddy's still around on Grand River?
Leddy’s on Grand River? Never heard of it, there was a candy store on GR about 15 years ago, I think it was somewhere near I-96 but they were selling dope out of there.I remember the Pop Rocks candy didn't 'pop' as much after rumor got out that Mikey from Life cereal died from drinking it with Coke.

Nothing better than steak tartare! One of my absolute favorites. Just had some lamb tartare the other day at Mabel Gray. It was out of this world. Probably not so good for you but every once in a while why not.....
Steak tartare is my favorite food on the planet. When I lived in Europe I ate it far more than I probably should have. The best places were in Northwest France and Czech Republic around Prague. It is much harder to find in the US. Any suggestions locally?
Edit: I did have a version at Marrow in West Village a couple months back. It has rekindled my love of raw beef.
