Whatever its first name, the last name might certainly be Bowl...

    Meijer Bowl
    Amway Bowl
    Olympia Bowl

...Bowl has lost all meaning now.

I agree. They did such an excellent job with the Hockeytown branding. Why dilute that with a cheap, fake slogan?

Well, this sounds about right. Have you seen the lights on MC Casino? Or the Ferris Wheel or the Merry Go Round or the Liquid Fireworks at Comerica? Liquid Fireworks has to be the dumbest of all. More than a third of the season is played in cold weather. Remember when they kept the flag pole in play as a nod to Tiger Stadium? Well, they moved the wall.

I really worry about what they have planned. They can't make the City Theatre spot work or the Johnny Rockets spot work and those are prime locations. Prepare for some cringe worthy branding and a glorified Fountain Walk. There are a lot of tacky tastes working above the Fox, I'm amazed the new marquee looks as good as it does.

It's like how Shaq used to give himself nicknames. Each iteration was more convoluted and ridiculous than the last.

Also, with a nickname like that I foresee Kid Rock's involvement.

Interesting discussion about properties owners disagreeing about historic district.

One the Mariners Inn doesn't want to be included.

"The owners of the Mariners Inn say they don’t want to be in the historic zone because they are getting too many lucrative offers to buy their building. The owner of the shelter is the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan. Mariners Inn is a homeless shelter and treatment center."

This is one thing I've always thought: The ability of social service agencies to sell their properties in developing areas, take the proceeds and reinvest in a less costly area, thereby pocketing some funds.

I like Little Casears Arena [[but that name doesn't bring in any extra dough, pun intended).

I guess it comes down to if you really believe in the product [[i.e. naming rights) you're selling. If you think there's 50 million, or whatever the asking price, worth of equity then why not use it yourself? Little Caesars has been growing and spending more on national advertising recently so it may make sense.

Also here's an aerial pic from last week or so ... nice seeing it in perspective with the downtown skyline! so nice to finally have midtown and downtown flow smoothly

I think this photo shows how important to the pedestrian flow a bridge to Park Ave would be...

Indeed. If one has a stylus one can just let the stylus move over the screen and draw the bridge. It seems a complete natural.

    Literally a 'no brainer'.

BTW, the photograph looking south, REALLY shows how much Woodward needs two [[residential) buildings on Woodward where the Comerica Park parking is.

From high up looks like an mouth x-ray minus two [[molar) teeth.

East Downtown definitely needs some height, looking at the skyline from that angle hurts my eyes. It's unbalanced and dry. Hopefully the Bates Garage site and the Monroe block development does wonders. The aerial view LIVE nationally will see this angle on game nights, concerts etc.

Will the new planned arena hotel be visually seen beyond the height of the arena itself?

i agree it's needed... just may be difficult with the entrance ramp onto I-75 being right there... would have some engineering to do allowing a clearance for semi's, etc.

With the Woodward Bridge just being rebuilt with the M1 Rail in place, I don't think it was built for future expansion.

I could possibly see a pedestrian walkway off of Park Ave.

If what I heard is true, then the Hudson Site announcement....will provide the height and the skyline will change............

Agree. Lack symmetry when looking from above.

Of course, most of us spend our time at ground level so we get lost in the trees, er, buildings and don't get this view.

Especially if they build residences along Henry as promised [[I'll stop short from saying "planned").

    Psyche!

Different topic, but I agree here too.

Stadia are voids between events. Residents are needed to provide life day round. And an impetus for businesses besides those catering to brief stadia events.

    Stadia. I'll hold my tongue.

That would be nice, but mixed with existing height along Woodward. Let's go further in the greektown district, all those surface parking lots waiting for development.

In time. If things continue to go well for the city we will see more new construction. Karp is planning on building new along Washington Boulevard, Gilbert hinting at announcing something for Monroe late last year and there is still the possibility of the fail jail. Detroit is closer than ever to building a new tower. The next 5-10 years are going to be really exciting as long as the economy doesn't tank on us.

I'm excited about the possibility of adding a "urban" style Meijers store in The District vicinity. Also excited about the arena hotel, which brand will it be and the design of it.
