Leaving aside the politics of why, do you think the decrease in crime in NYC [[and esp. the outer boroughs) has been a major factor?It would not have happened without the transit. But in New York the public transit is so ubiquitous that transit alone isn't always the deciding factor. In this case I think the re-zoning and population growth had a lot more to do with it. The transit has been there for over a century.
