NE Corner of Library and Gratiot. Don't know if this photo was the same building, or if this was built afterwards on that corner.http://dlxs.lib.wayne.edu/cgi/i/imag...art=1;resnum=2

Check out the biographical write-up for one Wm H. Beamer. THe hotel was indeed at the corner of Library and Gratiot across the street from where the Skillman Library now stands. The Skillman replaced a really fabulous library ... for some reason the folks in charge thought the orginal library was old or ugly or some such thing, but that is a different issue.
BTW, Henry the Hatter's first Detroit store was inside the Library Hotel and according to records at the time, the Library employed 64 persons ... contrast that with the Tuller at 340 souls.
Wasn't a bar called The Red Garter once on this spot? It was a sing along place featuring Doug Jacobs and his Band.
