Fantastic news! Although it is well out of my way, I will go there to support them. For those that don't know, Biggby is a Michigan born and raised company. The company has grown tremendously since I was at their first store in East Lansing the first day it was open.
Where is it? I didn't see where it would be located or construction that resembles one when I've driven by the past few days...

You have been very vocal about the need for a chain coffee house in the Avenue of Fashion and it looks like someone was listening! This is great news. Nearby McNichols between Livernois and Wyoming is also seeing some notable investment as well
Someone is reading from all of our ideas on this site. Let's look at the ideas that came to life. I believe that Livernois could be a destination spot with a mixture of retail that could cater to all needs and taste including of those of the surrounding communities. I don't think that the buildings that line the Avenue of Fashion should be razed to make room for condos but should be renovated so that they could house a mixture of retail and quality boutiques. I will bet that if a casually or any outer wear store such as Columbia, The Gap, Panera Bread, SEE EyeWear, Starbucks, Sanders, etc, they would do great and bring that avenue back to life
I have a Bigby next to my shop. They spent a considerable amount of money to rehab an old bank building, and the parking lot is never full.
That's probably due to poor management or the place is very small with limited seating. I go to a Biggby in the eastern suburbs. The management is poor. They blocks off half of the dining area to have it repainted during business hours instead of having the work done after or before business hours. The management doesn't rebrew the flavored coffee such as Michigan Cherry after a certain time of day claiming that no one is drinking it. The outdoor fireplace had been down since fall of 2016. Etc. Those things will cause a decline in business. Let's j7st hope the this new Biggby Manager doesn't sabotage this restaurant whether deliberate or out of incompetence. As the mayor had hinted last night that most business that open in Detroit have to hire Detroiters. No problem with that. The right type of individual should be hired that will help the business do good and grow and not destroying it
Would these be franchise stores, or company stores?
If its franchise, why would the owners choose Biggby? How are the stores in the rest of the chain?
Can’t believe there isn’t a Starbucks in the city, I’m not referring to downtown, but on any of the major arteries. The only one I can think of is on 8 Mile near Woodward, that one is a little hard to get to.
I hope that Detroit Sip on McNichols just west of Livernois is given a chance to prosper.

Just driven past there this morning and nothing had been done to it since last October. Still a shell. I wish that ain't knew how to post a pic on here. I had spoken to a rep whom had informed me that they are STILL waiting on the permit from the city of Detroit. Politics at its best being done here

I had overheard that manager tell a customer that she'd managed a Biggby that was in St Clair Shores. It closed only a year or two after opening due to the owner of the building had raised the rent sky high. You are right. The Biggby in Grosse Pointe has all of the things in place to run it successfully but the managing of the store is mediocre. I hope that the Livernois store would be managed better with a professional staff not just some careless kids just there collecting a paycheck
I prefer BB's coffee over Tim Hortons or Starbucks. I hope they do well.
While it's great that a chain coffee shop has expressed interest in the area, I'd much rather patronize the nearby Narrow Way Cafe or Detroit Sip, both having owners and employees that live nearby.
I love the independent locashops as well but I dont think yhat the fity should giveva national one a hard time to open. I will go to the one that could get me the best price. I like Narrow Way but had never been to Sip. Both keep odd hours or doesn't open on Sundays. Buggy will force competitors to step up their game orshoot themselves and die a slow death such as a downtown coffee shop out of Rochester had just done
Coffee shop lovers? You mean sugar shop lovers. Place smells of candy and sugar, which makes sense looking at their menu.
Wish they would teach these young baristas how to make a cappuccino. It's always a piping hot latte with a touch more foam. Guess I'm turning into a coffee snob. I'll stick to Red Hook, Avalon and Astro.
Like my dad I like my cream and sugar with a 'bit' of coffee! Well, no - I've had to reduce my sugar intake.
I make my own coffee most of the time with a two cup stove-top percolator. Works great!
And not that much slower than a standard coffee maker.

You could always ask them to make it special for you. I am not a coffee snob. Give me drip coffee anyday. There's a very spacious coffee shop downtown whose name I don't want to say but has a store in Rochester. They are about to shoot themselves in the foot by upping the price on their 12 oz cup of coffee for they feel that no one is buy it. It was suggested to them to have 16 oz cups as their sister store has especially for those office workers who just want to grab and go. They don't want to listen to that advise but will probably loose a lot of business due to the stiff competition that is all around downtown Detroit. I hope that the Biggby is successful on the Ave once that city allow them to open. I could see a Starbucks next
