Tragic and very sad. And it comes just at a point where her significant contribution to the recent history of the music was starting to be recognized.

My cousin want to Cass with her, and was in music and theater arts there. A few years later he told me that I had to check out this girl he knew from school who was gigging with Marcus Belgrave and making a big splash. Even then she was spectacular, with style that intriguingly mixed together a number of streams in jazz.
A few years later I was able to catch her playing in Tokyo when I lived there. At that time I had a few minutes to talk to her and found her soft-spoken, but witty, engaging, and deeply informed and opinionated about music history.
She will be very much missed.
