Having heard no "boom" yet, I went online to both of our esteemed dailies to find out how this concluded.
Each paper gave this description for the location of the "bomb"
It was left on Griswold between Woodward and Congress.
Perhaps the "explosion" from the bomb rearranged the street grid, but as I recall, Woodward and Congress cross at right angles, and no part of the Guardian Building actually fronts on Woodward, which runs parallel to Griswold.
Not just one, but both papers reported it this way. Perhaps they just copied the location off a DPD release. But, the editorial rooms of these papers are less than 2 blocks from the Guardian Building. How hard would it be for them to do a little "investigative journalism" -- i.e., walk 2 blocks to the story -- to report on it accurately?

Not only that but if you look at the map in the article, Fort is labeled as Congress. The person who made the map, wrote the article, and checked off on it all don't know what street they were on.
Local media likes to blame the internet for their declining businesses but maybe it's because they're all horrendous at their jobs? The map is literally a screenshot from bing maps with their labels traced on top and they still got the street name wrong.
Someone should organize a tour bus and take all the TV newscasters and newspaper folks around and explain what constitutes eastside, westside, etc. what the main arteries are and where they cross.
Most, if not all of the journalists, in Detroit likely don't live in the city and probably don't do much navigating throughout the city aside from an occasional sports game or lunch spot [[exception given to the veterans who did field reporting back in the 70s). In fact, aside from limited portions of the News/Freep and WDIV, very few of Detroit's news operations are based in the city proper. So it's not surprising that they're clueless about the geography of the city
