Wrong hotel. If I wanted to impress Chicago friends I'd have them stay at Cadillac Westin. Or in the burbs at the Townsend. And I'd get them very liquored up. Sorry to say, there's not much you can do to show off Detroit to people coming from a city that's about 100x better than current Detroit. A lot of booze will give them a chance to forget how dire it was.

Dinner in Detroit: El Barzon, few rounds of margaritas will make night fun. Dinner in Grosse Pointe: Marais. Dinner in burbs: Torino, Ferndale [[or Rugby Grille if you put them up at the Townsend). De Mongo, Green Dot, and Sugar House should be pretty full for boozing. Maybe night cap with a coney from Lafayette or shawarma at Bucharest. Stroll over to Astro or Great Lakes for an espresso the morning they checkout.
