How in the world do they go through central Detroit and not central Chicago? This is a serious question but have you ever looked at a map of Chicago?Even considering the lake, there is still quite a difference in spacing of the freeways in Chicago vs. here. Plus, we have the river to one side, so it's not like Detroit is devoid of a coast. It's pretty easy to see we have a tighter "web" of freeways in Detroit. Also, freeways do not really go through central Chicago...as you said, they go around. So my original point was valid.
