Some very nice finds south!! Pollmar & Ropes on East Grand Boulevard how cool is that!
Thanks - I was pretty excited to see the Boston Blvd one. Lowell got me up and running again.
Another Pollmar and Ropes, next door to the other one on East Grand Blvd - Louis Becker House 1909. Terrible photo by me that doesn't capture its beautiful rounded dutch gable.

A design by H. E. Hallett. Hallet's office address is the same as builder Carl E. Reichle who built the home next door to this home and can be seen on this thread. I wonder if Hallett was his in-house architect.

402, 408 and 414 Notre Dame built in 1937 City of Grosse Pointe, MI.
A friend who lives on Notre Dame near these houses, told me last week that Beaumont Hospital purchased all the homes on Notre Dame across from the Kelvan Homes from Jefferson to Maumee with plans to demolish them for the expansion of the hospital.
Yes this J. Ivan Dise design is on the chopping block. Its not for the expansion of the Hospital but expansion of the parking lot.
373 Notre Dame built in 1938 City of Grosse Pointe, MI.
Perhaps p69rrh51, SouthofBloor or Patrick know the architects of these two Detroit homes. I certainly don't; but I do think that whomever they were, they created two of the most beautiful scallop-shell porticos in the city. The first is on the southwest corner of Second and Taylor. Please look beyond the green and white paint at the detail of the carving of the portico and its brackets.
The second is on Virginia Park [[west of the Lodge) between Byron and Woodrow Wllson. On this house, please also notice the brackets that support the eaves and the beautiful dormers.
I don't have an answer yet - want to lean toward Burrowes for the one with the bay windows but haven't yet got a confirmation. His office was extremely prolific in this period beyond what has been documented in these pages [[lots of smaller work listed in the permits and brief paragraphs) and architecturally it seems correct as he at times combined highly ornamental isolated elements with simplified surface materials on complex volumes. He liked these small shed dormers, and I've seen less ornamental bracketed semi circular hoods over his entrances before.
Taylor in that block had a lot of different architects active. Great block.
Possibly C. H. Bennett, for F. E. Parker, ca 1905. 88 Taylor St half block west of Woodward.
I found a reference in the Free Press "News of the Architects" May 7, 1905 that may be describing this house. "C. H. Bennett has prepared plans and let the contracts for a residence for F. E. Parker to be erected on the north side of Taylor Avenue, near Woodward Avenue. The first story will be veneered with paving brick, the second story and roof will be covered with stained shingles. The interior of the first story will be finished in oak and mahogany and the second in oak and white enamel. A large porch will be built up with field stone and tile floor. The size of the house is 36 x 42."

The arches over the door look very similar to the work of J. H. Gustav Steffens, Enclosed are a couple images of his work with a similar arch from a couple issues of the Michigan Architect and Engineer.

Does anyone have any information regarding the "cottages" that two Fisher brothers built on Grosse Ile? One burned down years ago, but another remains...
