Sorry, I have doubts about any of these "I've heard of" stories. They are often canards, much like urban legends. Remember when everybody talked about people "spitting on Vietnam veterans when they came home"? Alright, everybody knows the story, but show me one instance of anybody, anywhere, spitting on a Vietnam Veteran returning home. Metaphor becomes reality.

Think about what you're saying: You acknowledge that some people use transfer payments to survive in hard times. These are very hard times indeed. The unemployment rate -- calculated the old way, before they doctored it -- is at Depression levels. And yet, you've heard too many stories of people abusing the system to have sympathy FOR REAL PEOPLE WHO CANNOT FIND WORK AND HAVE NOWHERE TO TURN FOR HELP BUT THE GOVERNMENT.

For a similar line of reasoning, see "I'd rather innocent people go to jail than have the authorities be soft on crime."

Bravo Snyder! It's about time! I'm done with feeling bad for everyone on welfare. Some, sure, but I know someone that works for a state assisted living [[non profit) that is in Detroit and a few in the burbs. Most of the tenants are on welfare and/or have a bridge card. They often tell her about how they did at the casino, and even a few were talking about a cruise that they went on this summer. If they are cut from the program, tough shit.

I'm sure it was said earlier, but welfare and assistance from the government is meant to help you get back on your feet. It's not income! It's supposed to end eventually and there are people that consider welfare their pay.

    Funny you should say that!

There was an article I read in the Detroit News a long time ago that has stuck with me all this time.

One year after Engler cut welfare for able bodied people, the paper did a "Where are they now?" type article.

One guy they interviewed said, "I don't mind working, and I really like getting an income tax refund. When you're on welfare, you don't get nothing back!"

Because if your currently in college and healthy and strong, you are not eligible for food stamps in thr State of Michigan. Besides you're in the working world earing a grateful income. Be blessed of what your NEED. Cut the wants!

River rat is back to the forum after a few years of missing all the whining. RR was in Greece much of the summer and there you can see the result of endless failed social engineering.

Get to work! Good for the governor. Get the scofflaws to work. Only those with true disabilities should get assistance.

The appropriate thing for government to do is try and create a good environment for business, and provide a short term safety net for people. Anything else will just get abused.

The best way to enslave somebody is to give them stuff regularly for free.

Yes, e.g., the military industrial complex is a slave to U.S. taxpayers. Er, or vice versa?

Gov. Synder is more than a Republican, It's a BUSINESSMAN! Just like he downsize Gateway Computers when he was CEO, He would downsize Michigan to his level. Cut more porgrams for the proletariats. Trying to destory the film incentive program. Create jobs for ONLY fresh out college young professionals. Favoring corporations for tax breaks. Cutting educational funding and forcing public schools districts to shape up or ship out. Synder even created his EFM dictatorship Bill to let Emergency Financial Mangers to city government and jhave them dissolved if the EFM wants to. That is the PRIME REASON that you all don't vote for a nerd who know less about inside poltics.

    WORD FROM THE STREET PROPHET

I rather have Virg Benero fix Republican's the Michigan Legislature then having a nerd babysitting this Great State of Michigan.

Oh! we got blown away with the rising 10.1% unemployment with little job creation in site. Synder will be a one term governor.

    Neda, I miss you so.

Hansen Clark for Governor of Michigan 2013.

Snyder is a realist. The state can no longer afford the infrastructure costs it presently has. Yes he has managed to tick off the special interests, but it needed to be done. He is representing the tax payers, not the tax takers.

Before the rants start coming in listen to this interview of a businessman in Kalamazoo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTpBl...layer_embedded

Unrealistic tax breaks for the rich cost the federal government money.

Unrealistically lavish bailouts for corrupt bankers cost the federal government money.

Unrealistically starting several wars of choice simultaneously cost the federal government money.

So the government puts more burdens on the states, which can't afford it.

Then, all of a sudden, somebody who cuts vital social programs because of this is called a "realist." I love it.

Most of the time Synder is tax taker the taypayer. He's little in the realist side and more on conservative point of view side. If he want's to create a better Michigan, he's going to shut the door of the proletariats and middle parties. He don't hardly get any more votes from a proletariat Detroit and other small cities like Flint, Lansing, Benton Harbor and Kalamazoo. Grand Rapids are more of Snyder's territory than all the State of Michigan. In political law, you must vote in the inside according their principles and equate with your beliefs. If you vote some SCHMOE! like [[Synder and Bing) from outside of politics, then you get a synthetic manchurian facist leader who would either be a puppet for the supreme authority gaining their favors or a dictatoresque leader demanding the end or our principles and beliefs. Most Michiganders have a terrible mistake of chosing that nerd who is to fast on politics and less on the beliefs of other People of Michigan.

Now he's going to re-invent this state by cutting more programs for the proletariats from film incentives to welfare programs to education funding for public schools. What other programs that Snyder the Nerd is going to cut? He's treating Michigan like Gateway Computers DOWNSING TO RE-INVENT!

    WORD FROM THE STREET PROPHET

Woe is the People of Michigan with little created jobs in site and sucking up to food stamps and welfare checks.
