In Crain's today.
I wonder how many people will go to this rather than a bar.

Bell's Amber Ale
Dear God how awesome.
We had a huge biergarten place that had oopah bands and was a big tourist trap on St Denis street fsince 1967 til about 5 years ago maybe. It was called the "OLD MUNICH". I think Detroit metro with its strong german roots should embrace this. No problem here, I see this as another plus in the fun on offer in duh D.
Hope they have tv to carry the Lions games.
Is this in a building or a rent a tent in a vacant field?
It effectively is a bar...

So great. See you there next Sunday!
Anybody remember Kurz Alt Heidelberg in Mt. Clemens around 1970? That place was a madhouse during Octoberfest. Give me a circus tent and 3000 barrels of beer, and we can post it to YouTube.
It will be in a vacant lot on Van Dyke between Agnes and Coe.
An extremely great idea, and right here in the neighborhood too. Detroit really needs more things like this that make the city seem more open and less fortified. Gotta wonder about licensing issues for longer term operation though - Michigan is somewhat tougher than NY on these things. And I agree with bothers that September is kind of a tough time to open an outdoor venue in these parts [[although I guess this means they get to do an Octoberfest thing... I hope).
In any event, a welcome return to my eastside German-American beer garden-going ancestral roots. And, whether they know it or not, a return to the roots of the area around the entrance to Belle Isle which was a big entertainment, amusement park, and beer garden district before prohibition slowed down the party, and then the city finally tore it all down in 1927.
Speaking of local history, someone at Crain's need to do a little more research, or get some local history lessons from some old-timers, about the Tashmoo and Tashmoo Park.
The word "tashmoo" comes from an American Indian language and is interpreted as "meeting place."
i am GOING! this is the kind of thing that keeps my detroit batteries recharged. and, since i just paid my property tax bill AND catholic school tuition, i need a boost!!!
She moved extremely fast with her plan.
I remember reading the article in the times as well. New Yorkers and people from all over the country slammed the article by saying that NY's version of a real German Biergarten was a joke. The authur took a lot of heat.
But it was a good read.
I can't wait to visit her place! Hopefully, they can stay open thru October because ther fall would be a cool time to hang outside and hoist a few cold ones.
wow, awesome. i'll totally go to this!!! LOVE beer!
Also beer related I have been loving michigan beers lately. outstanding! shorts, bells, arcadia, motor city..there's so many and they're so delicious. Plus the more we drink instead of mainstream beers, the better for our state.
Don't forget
Bell's Two Hearted Ale
ABC Strawberry Blonde
Frankenmuth 69 Pale Ale
I like your suggestions as well. Beer snobs rise up!
...what's the concept behind a biergarten?
