Ikea would be a more appropriate sponsor for the Wings.

Disgusting
Seriously though, what's the big deal? Amway has been a sponsor since last season. In fact, during one of the pre-games, they made a point to welcome their newest sponsor on the telecast.
I can't understand why some folks get their panties in a bunch, its just one of many companies putting their name on the boards. Now, if they were to have clowns making the rounds in the seats trying to persuade fans to join their cult, then I'd have a problem.
I think Amway's creation/support of the Grand Rapids Griffins speaks for their intentions. Unless everybody thinks it's a "Roger & Me" thing where people are supposed to sell soap 2 each other instead of making cars? Best insult I've seen called the Wings "the NY Yankees of hockey" There's always complaints among the Kings & Ducks when Detroit comes thru the stands are a "sea of red" [QUOTE=Wesley Mouch;270378]Worse, why that would have been the 1-800-CALL-SAM Red Wings.

Amway is well known for business practices that are considered by many to be less than ethical. They make a large percentage of their income by selling training materials, products and seminars to their "Independant Business Owners", but many [[If not most) of those 'IBO's" end up making very little money. Many of them end up losing money and are left in debt, saddled with large amounts of unsold products and often end up being ostracized by their friends and family.Seriously though, what's the big deal? Amway has been a sponsor since last season. In fact, during one of the pre-games, they made a point to welcome their newest sponsor on the telecast.

I'm just surprised that Illitch would want to be associated with a business that has such a questionable reputation. Then again, I guess the $$$ is probably good, and that probably helps wash away that lingering bad taste.
Also, they become a well known company throughout Michigan when Dick DeVos [[the founder/owner's son with the same name) ran for Governor against Granholm a few years ago.

Then there's the whole "Blackwater" angle:

I couldn't believe it when the Public Address announcer at the Tigers game actually announced the Rain Delay sponsor yesterday. At what point do companies say it's beyond the saturation point and becomes a negative?
What's new?
Interestingly enough, the people who live in the Amway-Dutch belt [[West Michigan) are almost always very proud and protective of Amway, much in the same manner that Detroiters are defensive about their car companies. If you ever go to that part of the state, don't bad mouth Amway or you will create enemies fast.
I've had relatives sell the stuff. It's a good quality product. What turned them off to it was the method it was being sold. It was more about pyramid scheming to them than talking about the efficacies of their product.Interestingly enough, the people who live in the Amway-Dutch belt [[West Michigan) are almost always very proud and protective of Amway, much in the same manner that Detroiters are defensive about their car companies. But I've also heard they've changed their ways a bit and if they want to throw money towards my Wings and not be too obtrusive, far be it for me to bitch.
