Heard the song "High for This" by The Weeknd on a trailer for the new season of Entourage a few weeks ago and I've been hooked to the band ever since. The group is based out of Toronto and has this amazing sonic R&B mix with moody undertones. They released a mixtape for the public a few months ago and I'm just waiting for more... check them out:

Exploration #6 - London Pirate Radio
Pirate radio is everywhere in London, born in the 60’s from rusting anti-aircraft towers in the mouth of the Thames. Today’s broadcasts are hidden in plain sight, transmitting from secret tower block studios via homemade rooftop antennas. We put our boots on and went exploring.
It's an interesting behind-the-scenes documentary about clandestine radio operators. There's a bit of urban exploration involved. At one point they blindfold the commentator while driving him to their secret studio. I wonder if he thought to bring along a GPS?

    Where's part 2 to this?

I haven't been listening to much lately. Do any of you other music fans go through a dry spell?

Visted some relatives on the Polish side over the weekend and my cousin had a record of this guy:

Keep watching for the polka dancers.

    .
Many times over the years. You can only listen to the older stuff so much, and I haven't been discovering much newer stuff at all in recent years. My tastes aren't all that diverse, mostly the stuff I like tends towards rock, blues-rock or folk. Was at a party last weekend, the guy was playing the Black Keys station on some satellite deal, heard some great stuff that I wasn't familiar with, but don't know who the artists were.

I'm listening to the rising and falling crescendo of cicadas. I love the sound. It is what shimmering heat and heavy green trees sound like on a quiet, humid afternoon; sort of like the fragrance of lilacs for the ears. It is, nevertheless, a bittersweet song, as it heralds, for me, that the summer is in its downward half. Sigh.

That makes the third time that term came up in conversation since last weekend. Curious.

I'm listening to my recording of Blair at Audra Kubat's first Dinner and a Show...remembering this amazing artist. So bittersweet...

    This is funny.

I settled into my easy chair last night to watch a Mozart festival concert on PBS. The first selection was the Overture to "The Marriage of Figaro".

As the wonderful orchestra began playing, for the life of me, all I could see was Philadelphia, Eddie Murphy, Dan Akroyd, and the opening scenes of "Trading Places".

Hollywood has messed up my wonderful music brain...................sigh...................

How is the album? I haven't had a chance to listen to it. I'm catching her in Philly in a couple months. Can't wait.

Pretty good. I was disappointed they didn't put this song on it though:

CBC2 Sunday Morning Choral Concert with host Peter Togni. The is like a neck massage. Nothing beats mass human voices, the simplest of instruments.

Streaming it live from here http://www.cbc.ca/radio2/. It can be heard on CBC2 Windsor too, but this lets me sit with the laptop on the deck with the a headset. If I miss part of it. I can stream it from the Mountain and Pacific zones later.

While I have plenty of music, I've lost interest in it over the past 10 years in favor of some type of talk radio. But I have not lost my interest in the musical interest of people.

I've just listened to a NPR show that profiled the IPod playlists of combat soldiers in the Middle East right now. These are what you carry into combat with you along with grenades,M-16's, armour, and water. How different the ways and means of having music with you over the past 150 years of warfare.

For me, it was an mono portable 8-track player and Foghat. For my dad, almost nothing except for German propaganda radio, for my grandfather, maybe a Victrola, for my G-Grandfather, a harmonica and mouth harp.
Now, a complete 1000 song playlist and photos in the size of a pack of gum.

Gospel, C&W, Heavy Metal, Rap, and Folk all march into combat zones at the same time.

A different drummer, I guess, but really interesting.

    Bob Seger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CFibAP5IBQ

The words to this just struck me listening to it tonight:

    I want an air conditioner
    Cottage on the river...

Some stock in GM and GE
    An office in the city...

Don't want to have to ration
A thing with anyone but me
And if there's war or famine...

I'll pretend to be liberal but I'll still support the GOP...

    Written in 1973.

And this one, from 1979, I've got 50,000 watts of power:

This is blast from the past. Where were you about 1965? Nice tribute to this song.
