I think thats his kid's home. I worked on it when it was still owned by a Ford. I don't know which wife it was, but after letting the house sit vacant for 5 or 6 years because of jet setting she finally sold it, I know it was many years because I had to clean up leaves that were between my knees and my waist, that covered the whole property.

I also worked on the house next door... but you can drive through there as long as you look like you belong there, they don't stop everyone at the gate.

That may be so, but he got me.

I've got one client on that street, and struggled remembering having to go through a gate.

I was repeating something told to me by a trusted friend, that Matty flies the Lebanese flag and not an American one.

I did NOT see it by 'driving by'.

That was hearsay...and my comment a lie.

The Detroit News is reporting that demolition of the duty-free gas station has started, enabling Stamper to be released. For the benefit of those of us unable to get down to Fort Street in person, does anyone have photos to post of this work?

A look at Google Maps for this location suggests that the southernmost pier for the second bridge is sitting where the sidewalk ought to be, so presumably this will have to go, too.

As someone with an interest in gas-station and truck-stop retailing, it will be interesting to see if business picks up at competing truck stops during the period when Maroun's tax-free store isn't competing for sales with a 55-cent/gallon advantage over other Michigan fuel retailers. Of course the pump price differential is never that great, indicating just how profitable the untaxed fuel sales must be for the Bridge interests.

"I'm just waiting for the News to have one of their hit-writers do a piece on how this is the big, bad, socialist government picking on the lowly capitalist billionaire just trying to make a buck. lol"

Last time I checked, Bill Shea still works for Crains.
