F*#k those demicans, too! Does anyone here see the absurdity in pointing fingers at republicrats and demicans? Admittedly, I've done it myself on occasion. The problem is the republicrats AND the demicans. They do the very same stupid, criminal things and screw us just the same. The demicans sold their souls [[the little they had left) to the very same corporations as the republicrats. I worked my ass off for Obama's 'Change You Can Believe In', and all I got was a 'Change In Adminstration' and pocket change[[$?). Very little other change I can see. We have, in effect, a ONE party system. Politicians profess profound political and ideological differences but when push comes to shove, they vote their pocketbooks. Their own. Once in office, they're entitled to benefits we'll never experience in a lifetime, including job security working for corporations, think tanks and other politicians. A week or two in that other world - DC and they forget the real world - working America.

Anyway, I am not sure how it is in Michigan as far as accountability for searching for employment while collecting unemployment... I read the brief summary Wingnatic wrote on post #22.

In Florida, you claim your weeks online. It asks you one simple question: "Did you look for work in the week starting XX/XX, and you check yes or no. That's it. NO specifics on where or when you applied anywhere. When your basic period runs out, you just keep claiming your weeks on the website without interruption. It's very easy to keep claiming Unemployment without looking for work. I don't know if other states are this simple to claim benefits. I just know first hand that when I was unemployed for 7 months, it literally took me 1 minute to answer like 6 "check the box" questions and my check was in the mail.

The point Pelosi is trying to make is that the unemployment from the working poor and unemployed will go to stimulate the economy. Most econonist will tell you the middle class basically will spend the money as they get it, whereas the rich will tend to park their money and let it get interest

The other part of your statement about Pelosi doesn't deserve a response since it was so far out in "right field".

Also, most liberals believe this... a market system in which government regulates the economy will create a level playing field. Nothing about government creating jobs and redistribution of wealth junk. Liberals aren't necessarily socialist.

Maybe a little off the subject, but this question was posed to me by someone else....

Even if the Federal government approved an extension of unemployment, this person heard that the State of Michigan has NOT approved their portion. Therefore, Michigan residents would not get benefits, anyway.

Does anyone know if this is true?

It's terrible irony when terrible news and experience is what connects us. But, at least we who are sharing our terrible experiences here are also sharing empathy. Also, while I do agree with helping people in a time of need, I think that some people come to think that unemployment benefits are actually income. While on unemployment, you receive less than $20,000 a year. You are currently allowed to receive benefits for almost two full years. You can make this much money cooking or washing dishes in a restaurant or landscaping or working at a local fast food joint. Just sayin.

The tax cuts are part of the reason we have a deficit. At least with the tax cuts ending for those that make over $250k some of that money could be re-coup to reduce the deficit somewhat

Saw on another forum where 175 or so members of Congress and the Senate have many hundreds of millions invested in the military/industrial complex, too.

Wishing Eisenhower would've not changed his exit speech. It originally read "Military/Industrial/LEGISLATIVE Complex"...he didn't want to be found calling out one of the main branches of government at the time. Gave them the benefit of the doubt.
