As part of the Lorenzo Cultural Center’s American Ingenuity: Embracing the Freedom to Dream, author Greg Tasker, a widely published freelance writer, traces the more than 130-year history of Detroit's famous confectioner, Sanders, which at its peak had more than 50 stores and products distributed through 200 supermarkets, to its near extinction in the 1980s and its resurgence through another Detroit institution, Morley Brands. Tour of the Michigan Consolidated Gas Building [[One Woodward Avenue) Tour, Saturday, October 9, 2010, 11am. Part of DOCOMOMO’s North American Tour Day. Locally sponsored by the Detroit Area Art Deco Society. Architect Minoru Yamasaki designed One Woodward Avenue. His first skyscraper, he used it to formulate his design for the now-destroyed WorldTradeCenter in New York City. The MichCon building was formerly called the ANRBuilding - today it is called the OneWoodwardBuilding. It is located at the corner of West Jefferson and Woodward Avenue. The tour starts across Woodward Avenue in front of the "Spirit of Detroit" statue. Free and open to the public.
