Great news! Leo Phillips is a great guy, and his success at the Fort Shelby [[considering all that has been stacked against him) instills faith!

i love that building ...great news keeping my fingers crossed that this actually happens
I'm pretty excited about the west side of Downtown, which generally, outside the Financial District, is the lesser half... dotted with a painful amount of parking lots, blocked off streets, and generally devoid of entertainment, shops or restaurants [[of course there are exceptions). It is a contrast to the east side of Downtown which has Greektown, Paradise Valley, Broadway, and many entertainment venues and theaters.
But there have been recent developments... The Book Cadillac Hotel, the Fort Shelby Hotel, the Rosa Parks Transit Center. These are becoming anchors in their districts... the Fort Shelby renovation leads to more rehabs and more businesses opening around it.
Don't forget the cop shop in the former MGM casino...
Its funny how the building is owned by "Free Press Holdings" [[no connection to the newspaper.)
The more redevelopment, the more it spurs other redevelopment. Hope it goes through.
Great news, I love that building.
There are a lot of grand projects in Detroit just waiting for credit to open back up. Do you guys think this stuff is actually going to happen in the near future?
I guess the owners were just waiting for the Lafayette demo in order to make this project viable, huh?
Does anyone know if DEGC will have a hand in this project?
By the way, plenty of interior shots of the Free Press Building at www.buildingsofdetroit.com/places/freep. Best roof views in the city, in my opinion. Not the highest, but just jaw-dropping.
I dunno BoD, the views up in the David Stott, especially those facing the north & north west, are pretty amazing. But yes, the Freep has some wonderful cityscapes all the way around. It would make for an amazing rehab. Here's to hoping this works out!By the way, plenty of interior shots of the Free Press Building at www.buildingsofdetroit.com/places/freep. When I worked for Comerica I had direct views of the Freep Building along with the bridge to the Detroit Club. The Freep Building was always secured a lil bit better than the other buildings. Perfect location with ample parking.
