Please read my subsequent posts. Obviously, you either don't see were I'm in agreement with you or you're trying to argue for the sake of arguing. But, I'll say it once more.

If you're agreeing with me, then why have you put this 'You're absolutely right. It's a known fact that black voters have never, ever supported white democrats that run for President. [[Please note sarcasm). That 93-97% black vote that the democrats receive is a myth.' in this forum? Otherwise what are you agreeing with?

Sometimes even a double standard doesn't help-
a big 'D' on party affiliation will have to be there. Some voters select 'all one party'- period.

1986 Michigan Governor Election. Incumbent 'D' Blanchard won over 'R'opponent William Lucas

I'm still waiting for Detroiters to have the courage to elect a Libra. It'll never happen, unfortunately.

I think a white mayor would come in as soon as an upswing is in the making in Detroit. When the city start to show a major comeback or when plans are in place for Detroit to comeback then the white mayor would be elected

Let's not elect a mayor for his or hers zodiac sign. We might as well put Kwame back in office. Detroit will make a comeback. It is just a matter of time. It will not be like the old Detroit. I think it will become an international city. The mayor will be put in place to keep the city like that. The mayors that were put into place over the last 30 yrs were there to tear down and clean up.

And did that work out for them?

^ Reagan and the Bushes didn't work out that well for us, either.

During most elections, most people are voting for the lesser of two evils, no matter what their race.

A white mayor will probably bring more jobs to the city being that majority of the corporations are ran by whites. Whites will a times support whites than support blacks. As far as black mayors are concern. Dennis Archer was the best thing Detroiters had ever voted in since Cavanaugh. He had got the ball rolling until Kilpatrick came in and lous things up. Come on Detroiters. Think outside of the box when it comes to elected your leaders. Don't vote the black slate for that is reverse racism. What do you need a black slate for when Detroit is 90 percent black. How redundit. How stupid

Reagan and Bush looked out for their own. Bing and Kilpatrick looked out for others rather than their' own. Any mayor who had been planted in that seat is a puppet

I don't think it's going to happen as long as we have elected officials getting support with their "the white suburbanites are trying to steal our 'jewels' like Cobo" stuff going on. Then again, if it happened in Baltimore in "The Wire ..."
As for Latinos running, Hansen Clarke has run but received little support.

Hmm, yes that's right NOT all black people voted for Obama........ some went the independent route.

I've never voted the "Black Slate" and trudge pass all those candidate "flyer" pushing folks at the polls. By the time I'm walking into the voting precinct to vote I am already informed as to who I'm voting for.... which does not line up with the group thought necessarily.....

Last night, Channel 2 did a special report about Sheila Cockrel and her role in the local Civil Rights movement.

    http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/dpp/news...sheila-cockrel

It really made me think: Why were candidates like Maryann Mahaffey and Sheila Cockrel so successful during the "Black Slate" era of Detroit voting? Some will say that Cockrel made it in because of her late husband, but Maryann Mahaffey was by no means some radical, wild-eyed crazywoman. But I know from experience that black Detroit voters appreciated her. I'm so glad I had the chance to meet her.

Again, in my experience, Detroit voters would vote for a white candidate who connects with their experience in some way. Danny's posts above raise some good points.

yep your right only 95% of blacks voted for obama

sorry with that kind of number the above quoted statement is pretty absurd

Please don't refer to any African Americans voters as "independents"

Most fall under the category of non-motivated democratic voters

meaning they either vote democratic or don't vote at all-- that's how they show their independence

As long as people like this have a home in the Republican party, then yes, I will vote Democratic, Green, or other:

Rep. Trent Franks: African-Americans were better off under slavery
