Ahhhh, whatta thread!

I lived in N.O. for 22 years pre-kat; was a displaced person in Detroit metro for three years post-kat; now returned to N.O. because that's where the jobs were.

I really, really like both places. I feel at home in both places. I sometimes end up defending both places to outsiders who don't know Jacque $iht about either one.

N.O. has po'boys, Detroit has Coneys
N.O. has gumbo, Detroit has lemon rice soup
N.O. has sno cones, Detroit has snow
N.O. has a river, Detroit has a river
N.O. has jazz, Detroit has jazz
N.O. has Big Shot soda, Detroit has Faygo
N.O. has Mississippi, Detroit has Canada [[sorry, couldn't resist
N.O. leveraged its overnight catastrophe into billions of dollars of federal construction assistance; see just one recent example here

Detroit got its own bailout, but the difference is that in N.O. the bucks are going into infrastructure in the city itself, while in Detroit the $$$ went to corporations to stimulate car production in places which usually weren't named Detroit.
