Surprised this didn't get swept under the rug. I think there were more than 2 shootings. I watched police and ambulances heading in a totally different direction then the ones written about in the article. The whole evening was great until I saw the police and ambulances.
I think it is pretty much swept under the rug. A very brief news report, I haven't seen anything in the paper and this forum has 2 posts acknowledging it. Craig and Duggan don't want this kind of publicity, bad for business downtown. Also, wasn't there another shooting the next night downtown?
Every morning when I watch the news, another 3 or 4 shot and killed. No respect for life, no fear of consequences, grudge shootings or just want to kill someone for the hell of it. It is sickening.
While shootings are common in every major American city, there are most certainly not "3 or 4" shot and killed in Detroit on a daily basis.I think it is pretty much swept under the rug. No, it's just under 1 homicide a day. [[302 in 2016.)

Cleverly hidden in English in both papers with multiple articles.
Everything is a big conspiracy these days, just make one up anytime it feels like it will fit the agenda.
It's disgusting how gun violence is normalized in American society.
Meanwhile, the NRA is putting out ads that stop just short of calling for civil war

^^^ There are many reasons why we may be heading for civil war including the 'masked' goofs [[in this case a professor from the privileged royal enclosure of academe) that want to 'bring it all down' too!

"Clanton was an adjunct professor at Diablo Valley in Pleasant Hill in 2016, teaching philosophy, but he’s no longer employed there."^^^ There are many reasons why we may be heading for civil war including the 'masked' goofs [[in this case a professor from the privileged royal enclosure of academe) that want to 'bring it all down' too!

Diablo Valley College [[DVC) is a two-year community college in Pleasant Hill in Contra Costa County, California, USA.
--------------------------------------------
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Diablo Valley Community College is well outside the Royal Enclosure of Academe [[TM). And doubly so for former adjunct professors.
Yes, I was being a bit broad-brushed sardonic, yet there are those tenured [[and royal) who share Mr. Clanton's politic within some circles at the college level.
Clanton had less to lose one might argue [[tenure and pension) being an adjunct. But he still felt he needed to conceal his identify!! SHOW YOUR FACE!

That ad is definitely disgusting. I am also nonplussed by the stupid claims from the libtards who push for violence against Trump, the latest rash by Johnny Depp and Kathy Griffin are really bad. Trump himself has resorted to that silly but dangerous game of violence incitement in his latest tweets against CNN newscasters. It's disgusting how gun violence is normalized in American society.

Put all the poverty in select areas than have very limited opportunities plus a god awful education system and within that area crime flourishes. I know, go figure. With that crime you get a heavy dose of gang activity in drugs and prostitution.
Next, toss in cheap and easily obtainable hand guns and military type semi-automatic short barreled rifles that fire a low recoil intermediate rifle cartridge that accept quickly detachable 30rd. magazines [[ Did I get that one right? Lord knows we don't want to improperly label what they are and call them a bad name )
With the above conditions human death and serious injury by gunfire becomes abhorrently high.
Even if one cares little about the human suffering the above stated reality is one hell of a expensive problem.
It boils down to what do you want to pay for? Quality education? More opportunities in challenged areas? Long prison sentences, expensive law enforcement, children without any means of viable support, life long medical and social care for the victims and their dependents of this violence?
I believe it is a reasonable expectation to tax firearms and ammunition at import and manufacture higher to help pay for the high cost of gun violence in this country.
It shouldn't be very hard, some of the most stringent supporters of the 2nd amendment are vehemently against anyone getting a free ride.
Adjunct professors are not eligible for tenure. See, it helps to know something about academia before you start painting with your broad brush...Yes, I was being a bit broad-brushed sardonic, yet there are those tenured [[and royal) who share Mr. Clanton's politic within some circles at the college level.

^^^ Hold up. Actually I know quite a bit about academia on multiple levels. An adjunct, IF hired full-time [[and it does actually happen) could be at some point [[per the college time-frame for such) tracked for tenure per hiring policy and need for tenured for the program. Further, all Adjuncts are not under-educated [[as being the reason for adjunct status), many have master degrees.
It is the fiscal bottom line in some cases that has many colleges keeping staff at Adjunct levels to the legal allowable percentage along with full time [[tenure track, and tenured) staff.
FURTHER, if you carefully re-read my response you'll see that I stated [[as an irony) that he had little to LOSE because, he was NOT tenured.

Have you ever had a gun pointed at you? Evidently not. I have. And it was in Roseville, not Detroit. Problem is, gun control laws don't prevent criminals from using them. Criminals don't follow laws. They'll steal them...they'll smuggle them...they'll go down to Mexico and get the ones Eric Holder sent down there. That's why we call them 'criminals'. Ask anyone from Chicago. And no one is calling for "civil war". You're hearing what you want to hear, not what's actually being said.

Absolutely. Though it might stop some, but not all, of "legally" obtained domestic violence. Been stabbed and shot, one each, both in Detroit. If more guns is the answer why is it not helping?
Did Newtown upset you or just convince you that we have the best gun policy we could have in the US?

I've had multiples guns to my head but then again, I was asking for it. Long story.I have as well, not in Detroit.

Anyway, I'm all for guns despite not owning one. As redicilous as it sounds, I believe it keeps us safer. With over 750k CCW's in Michigan alone, it's likely there's a responsible law abiding citizen carrying in most public spacers and ready to use it to protect themselves and others around them. You may not be thinking of this when out and about but I'm pretty sure the criminals keep this stat in mind before they decide to act loose and unleash.

Point taken. But there is a give and take like everything in life. CCWs in Michigan have not always worked out perfect. Good thing the innocents didn't get hit.I've had multiples guns to my head but then again, I was asking for it. Long story.
