How was Cuba able to solve the problem of homelessness and can America do it?
Thom Hartmann reveals the authoritarian iron fists policies of the Soviet Union and Cuba that was able to eradicate homelessness but at the price of liberty.
Would you like to see homelessness end in America and is there a way this can be done?
Would you be in favor of the authoritarian control socialism used in Cuba if it was able to end homelessness?
Few of us know anyone from Cuba who lived there under the Castro regime.
I do, and have had many discussions about Cuba with them. They were informative.
I don't defend Castro, nor communism, and neither did Sanders.
And neither did they.
They were very clear to assert education, healthcare, and inequality dramatically improved under Castro, especially for black people.
Certainly not everything.
The same thing Sanders said, even if Sanders didn't mention race or inequality [[just education and healthcare).
Cuba has a higher literacy rate and life expectancy than we do, and a lower infant mortality rate.
Their doctors have been so well trained they've become among Cuba's biggest exports. If not their biggest.
Those are facts.
Relating them doesn't make someone a communist or a Castro supporter.
It makes someone a realist.
Not everything bad is completely bad.
Not everything good is completely good.
We'd be wise to admit that.
Based on what we've seen thus far, I dare say Cuba is probably better prepared for the coronavirus than we are. Despite the sanctions.
There are few reasons to credit the Cuban leadership.
But there are a few.
And for all the other reasons I'd love to see the Castro regime end.

Bernie Sanders is described by the media as far left but his policies are much closer to America's favorite presidents. Thom Hartmann explains.
Who is your favorite president? Franklin Roosevelt, John Kennedy, and Harry Truman are among the most popular presidents in American history and they all had policies that either matched or went further left than 2020 Presidential hopeful and Senator, Bernie Sanders.
But if America's favorite presidents were so far left, why is the media acting like Sanders is radical?
Super Tuesday saw Joe Biden become a new lead in the Democratic Party's primary, but how did Joe Biden manage to do it? Thom Hartmann reveals the surprising mix of political and personal reasons voters picked Joe Biden.
Why Joe Biden is Up...
Joe Biden outperformed both polls and expectations on Super Tuesday. There are probably four reasons why this happened.
-- First, the Virginia open primary numbers showing huge turnout suggest that many Republicans and independents, sickened by Trump but unwilling to vote for Bernie, showed up in open primary states and voted for Biden in the hopes that, in the fall, they can vote for a “Republican/independent-acceptable” guy to beat Trump.
-- Second, Jim Clyburn’s all-in embrace of Joe Biden had a huge impact that echoed across the African-American community nationwide, which can be seen in the exit survey poll results in states way beyond South Carolina.
-- Third, Joe Biden had almost wall-to-wall positive coverage, and Bernie a lot of negative coverage after his Cuba remark, on cable television and in major national newspapers for the previous week....
