When his budget proposes eliminating all major tax credits, including the state historic preservation tax credit, and the brownfield credit, there is going to be an uproar. If those programs are eliminated, major renovations of vacant structures in the City will come to a grinding halt. The Book Cadillac, Broderick Tower, etc. renovations would not have happened if even one of the major tax incentive programs were unavailable. I also shudder to think of the effect on residential rehabs if the historic credit is eliminated. Just look at Ferry St. in Midtown for an example of why we need to keep the historic credit. That street is empty and blighted without it.
