What century was this...
That's not a fountain. It's a tower!
Looks like Washington Boulevard around 1905?
Looks like they are setting up for bungie jumping!
Haha. It's a tower for one of those arc lights, early lighting systems that were so bright they had to be out of view or they'd hurt your eyes.
I know I know!!! It's the first cell phone tower erected in Michigan! Do I win a prize? What do I win?
That explains this cellular phone being used by a supposed time traveler in 1928!!!

First building to the right is the Book Cadillac Hotel prior to being rebuilt. Next to it is the Edison Plant Henry Ford worked at when he was living on Bagley and invented the Quadracycle in Skipper's bathroom.
The fountain [[or pond) in the middle of the grassy area behind the Moonlight Tower...don"t think I've ever seen a picture of that before...c[1907].

Is this the same park, different view? LOC...Capitol Square, Detroit[between 1880 and 1899]
Different park ... different view.
You know what would really improve that view up Washington Blvd? A giant set of bright red monkey bars!
What a humble place back then. Almost looks like a small town square.
That tower was the southern most link in the DEW Line. *wink*
