Const. Colin Little was fired from the Windsor Police force on Friday after a Police Act hearing.
Little had been with the Windsor Police Service for nine years. He's been off the job for nearly two years, after being caught trying to smuggle liquor into Canada.
Last fall, Little pleaded guilty to seven charges under the province's Police Services Act, including discreditable conduct, corrupt practices, and insubordination.
Little admitted to using the national police computer system, CPIC, for personal gain. In addition, he had loaned his police badge to a business partner who used it while trying to smuggle a large quantity of cheese from the U.S.
Inspector Joe Bachmeier was pleased with the decision.
"It's appropriate to the circumstances, we feel, and his decision was well-thought out and well-explained, and we think it was [an] appropriate decision," said Bachmeier. "What the [public] perceives helps us with our ability to get public support and to continue with our service. So we think that a fair decision such as this can only help to bolster that."
Little was part-owner of three Windsor restaurants and bars.
