Just an FYI relevant to the subject - the price of a discounted MTA [[subway & bus) pass in NYC is being raised to over $100 per month.
That is dirt cheap. When you think some people buy million dollar parking spaces in condo buildings in New York City. These folks dont use the subway much maybe but I know that Bloomberg uses the system frequently.
It's not "discounted". It's the price of the monthly unlimited pass. Meaning you can go where ever the service can get you, whenever you want, however many times you want for $104/month [[it is currently $89).
I'm sure you spend more on gas per month than $100 in Detroit, even for minimal driving. There really is no comparison between the cost of owning a car and the cost of using the NYC transit system; the transit system is cheaper by far. Take this from someone who uses the system everyday and has owned a car in both NYC and Detroit.
