Trivia for y'all:
What state tried to change its name Tuesday.....unsuccesfully?
Rhode Island.
WRONG!!!
The correct answer was....
State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations
... they wanted to change the offical name to "Rhode Island"
Apparently including "Plantations" in the official names casts a negative connotation...
That also begs the question... how many "commonwealths" are there... any others besides Massachusetts, Virginia and Kentucky??
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
... and since we're on state trivia... most [[but not all) states have "counties"... in Louisiana however... they're called "Parishes".
And in Alaska... they have no counties... they have "boroughs". But boroughs don't cover 100% of the state. Those areas in Alaska not within a borough are called "census areas". Seems kind of strange.
Although NYC has 5 boroughs as well... each borough is also a county of the State of New York.... Queens Borough is Queens County... Bronx Borough is Bronx County... Brooklyn Borough is Kings County... Staten Island Borough is Richmond County... and Manhattan Borough is New York County.
The longest state name has always been one of my favorite trivia questions, Gistok. That, along with what is the first foreign country you reach going south from Detroit. One blonde friend of mine responded "Ohio".
OK Ray I will play the game, first foreing country is Canada, It figured everyone knows that.what is the first foreign country you reach going south from Detroit
Now for the trick question, I would say Pennsylvania, but what state has the longest name?
Canada is south of Detroit??? Massachusetts for longest.
