I could tell you how I would handle it but what difference does it make? And don’t make assumptions about me. I know damn well the challenges of being a single parent. Since you made the statement, I’ll make the assumption about you, that you know too what the challenges are. Maybe you can enlighten Linda. AND I am not the one who blamed the parents! Linda is.

I read that article, there wasn’t any mention of the man’s parents. Maybe his parents are having health issues as well, maybe his parents are dead, maybe he was brought up with a single mom who did everything but shoot him herself to get him under control. Who knows?

    I didn’t call out a “mistake”. I questioned a hypocritical statement.

And facing these new problems could she have improved grades and attitudes? Or would she just do worse staying with me so her mom could get custody back? So, would my gaining custody actually help the child, or just teach her mom a lesson? I wouldn't be so quick to pile on Linda's husband.
You may be confusing apathy for exhaustion. Having a 15 y/o 24/7 takes a tremendous amount of energy.

As far as your daughter is concerned with her grades: Has she always been a poor student or is this new? If she has always had trouble in school, maybe you should have her tested for a learning disability. Could be anything from dyslexia to ADD or ADHD.

The schools tend to push struggling students through during the lower grades and by the time they reach high school, they’re flopping like a fish out of water. If she’s always been told to “try harder” and always been told that she’s “not applying herself”, I’d get her tested right away. Those statements are huge red flags for ADD.

I only mentioned this because I know a 14 y/o girl that made it all the way to high school before she was diagnosed with dyslexia. Once she was diagnosed and got the proper help with her studies, she went from a struggling, failing and downright depressed kid to making the honor roll consistently.

Now it is entirely possible, considering her age, that she’s just screwing around. 15 y/o’s have been known to do that, but if grades have always been an issue, despite knowing she’s a bright kid, testing might be worth looking into.

Thanks! She does have ADHD, you are right. She is recieving medication for it but the school still seems no more well equiped to deal with her then they where with me when I was that age and likely had the same issues going on. Except they didn't know what ADHD was back then.
