"Another area Jackson wants to address right away is combating the city's so-called food desert, a term used to describe pockets or neighborhoods in Detroit where fresh foods are not available.
"There is not a national or regional chain food store in Detroit," Jackson said. "Detroiters spend $2 billion on food and retail outside of the city."
Jackson said he is talking to owners of some chain stores about investing in the city.
