Young II's mother to run for City Council

    The Detroit News

Detroit --Annivory Calvert, the mother and former campaign manager of state Rep. Coleman A. Young II, is running for City Council.
Adding her name to a list that is approaching 400, Calvert told The Detroit News on Friday that she is "heeding the call of the people" and circulating petitions for the Aug. 4 primary.
Calvert, a former assistant director of public works, had a relationship with Coleman A. Young, the legendary and controversial former mayor, and left town for several years to raise her son. She managed her son's fifth-place campaign for mayor in February.

She joins a roster that includes former Deputy Police Chief Gary Brown, former Fox-2 personality Charles Pugh and former council staffer Saunteel Jenkins.

    Wow.

She'd have a better chance if she changed her name to Annivory Alexandra Young...

That would work out better for her if she changed her name.

How about just saying I wanted to run for the job and the pay is pretty good especially in this bad economy.

Why do these vultures keep circling around over the city?

The word nepotocracy comes to mind: Young, Conyers, Cockrel, Leland, Hertel, Levin [[and that's not an exhaustive list). And it's not just limited to Detroit or state politics: we have the Bush and Clinton families at the national level. This isn't 13th century Florence - but you'd never know it from how we elect.
