Showing up and riding is not an option per the Tour-de-Troit web site.

Eastside makes a great point. If you're not registered and want to ride, do the Critical Mass ride at 7pm tonight from the corner of Warren and Trumbull.

The text on the ticket doesn't determine what you get. It's based on the ticket color. Red and green tickets are for beverages. Pink and green are for food.

Oh, I'm not sure if we are serving any soup at the end of the ride...

I had fun shooting part of the ride but next year I think I'll pay and ride in it myself. The weather was perfect for a bike ride around the city like that and from what I could tell the cops did a great job with traffic and the organizers of the event did a great job.

Wow, what a great photo and a great day for the ride! We did not ride this year but are looking forward to riding next year for sure.

    Todd:

Nice event this year - the evolution of this event has come along really nicely from the first one. May I suggest for next year,

    1. Prohibiting the use of digital cameras and camera phones while riding? This is not a safe practice outside of the Tour, and it's really unsafe for someone - especially near the front - to be doing this.

    2. Leaving Belle Isle off the route? I know that it's a great place to pick up 5.8 miles without intersections, but it's windy as hell and not fun for casual bikers. I was up in the front and noticed that people were still biking onto the island when we were biking off [[making the group at least six miles long) - and from the amount of time we spent in Gabriel Richard Park, I surmised that the end of the group was having a lot of trouble keeping to even 10 mph.

    3. A staggered start? Since the midpoint is such a long stop, you could probably have a group doing a shorter route [[say 20 miles) start there without complicating things in the least.

And for others who were there [[and just for the irony):

    1. Did you notice the 18" gnome taking pictures for the newspaper? Somebody had to be that size to take so many low-angle shots!

    2. Why did it seem that every time you saw someone on the side of the road with a flat, it was a carbon-fiber-and-spandex person?

    3. Did the guy originally at the front with the blaring Michael McDonald/Jimmy Buffet radio make it? Or did somebody take him out for his taste in music?

Thanks to everyone who participated. By next summer, we're going to start seeing the fruits of the Tour's fundraising as the city gets more bike lanes and routes through Corktown and Mexicantown.

And thanks for the comments, HuggyBear. I will share those ideas with the planning team. We're continuing to work with the Mayor's office, DPD, and DPW to make this event work well and grow.

I loved seeing the East Side Bikers out there, what groovy rides!
