    Here ya go..

    "
Many studies have been conducted in the United States and have generally found that scientists are less likely to believe in God than the rest of the population. Precise definitions and statistics vary, but generally about 1/3 are atheists, 1/3 agnostic, and 1/3 believe in God.[52][73][74] Belief also varies by field: psychologists, physicists and engineers are less likely to believe in God than mathematicians, biologists and chemists.[75][76] Doctors in the United States are much more likely to believe in God [[76%).[77]
Some of the most recent research into scientists' self reported belief in God is discussed by Professor Elaine Howard Ecklund. Some of her most interesting findings were that scientist-believers generally considered themselves "religious liberals" [[not fundamentalists), and that their religion did not change the way they did science, but rather the way they reflected on its implications."

I might ask the same of you since you provide precious little real information.

Seriously you drone on, day after day about it. Practically every post of your touches on it. Classic OCD. If you aren't undergoing treatment, you should seek it. The reality is, you're probably just a person that likes to hide behind your keyboard and harass believers, because you think it's entertaining, and it's usually easy. The highpoint for you is getting banned from a Christian forum. That you joined just to start shit and get attention, because you get none otherwise.
Oh, that's right. You like to attack people personally and set up your own strawman image of what the opposition must be like instead of trying to see things from another's point of view. Your rigid religious upbringing won't permit that. And that is the sort of thinking I am working against. It does not make for a successful society when one group thinks they have THE TRUTH from on high especially when in reality they are a bunch of know-nothings.

And your quoted passage didn't really answer your question, did it? Each person probably has his/her own reason for continueing to believe starting with their childhood experiences and including the sort of science they work in. "Scientist" is a pretty broad term.

Not really, but explain the 76% of Doctors that believe in God. With all their medical knowledge, surely rivaling your own, they still realize something that causes them to believe in a higher supernatural power.

medical doctors are no more scientists than engineers or mechanics. as was quite in evidence with the last "physician" we had on this board, MDs don't even need a clear understanding of the scientific method. They are highly trained technicians, applying knowledge developed by scientists who by and large don't believe in a god. to call them scientists is like calling an engineer a physicist.

the question "why are we here" is simply absurd in that it assumes a reason. By assuming a reason, it pre-supposes that there was a "creator" who has a reason. of course, those fundies would never entertain the question of "why is there a god" or "who/what created god"

Not according to the statistics I posted. Only 1/3 claim Atheism, 1/3 keep their foot in the door, and the rest absolutely believe in God. You folks' premise that science has turned it's back on belief just doesn't hold water. You live in a bubble.

Kudos to Stosh for some more of that snappy wit. Keep it coming. you add so much to the discussion <barf>

You are so very welcome. I am glad that you agree with my concise and witty statement about your current condition. Maybe you can see someone about that?

Barf? Binge and purge mode now? You have quite the delicate constitution if that upsets your stomach that much. Perhaps you should consider another hobby?

And really, your contributions to any thread you post on amount in total to the equivalent worth of that pile of barf sitting on your shoes and keyboard now. I'll pray for you.

Stash, agnostics are not "keeping their foot in the door" by defiinition, agnostics believe that the existence of any form of deity is not something that is knowable. they are not believers. If you ask if they believe in god, their likely answer would be "no". 2/3 of the people in your poll do not believe in god. that's it

They are not disbelievers either. They are fence sitters. Otherwise they would just say they are Atheist and be done with it. Why use any other term? 1/3 believe, and 1/3 aren't sure would be more accurate.

they do not believe. the vast majority of agnostics will usually say they believe there is no god. the very fact that they do so makes them, by definition, disbelievers. this is very basic english. Disbelievers are people who do not believe. The difference between most agnostics and atheists is that atheists don't care if they offend theists. Agnostics don't believe, but they are willing to give it the old "well, it can't be proven" shrug off

The sad thing is that some folks won't get the joke.

Stay peaceful folks, if that doesn't hurt too much.

"If the Supreme Court says you have the right to consensual sex in your home, then you have the right to bigamy..."

But Jesus still didn't talk about putting people in jail for any of these "crimes". He just asked people to repent for the end was near.

Jesus didn't hate the sinner either...he was great at forgiving...and healing... and reaching to those whose lives are shunned by the some evangelicals today. Jesus also would have recognized the need for universal health care etc...he truly was the son of man with the heart from heaven.
