Freedom of speech -one of the great American values that I guess you missed learning about. Do some homework. The sound of Rachel Maddow's voice has to be one of the most nauseating sounds on Earth ! There is no way I could have watched long enough to see the actual video clips.
The U.S would be a much better place if we shipped the likes of Rachel Maddow, Rush Limbaugh, O'Reilly and Michael Moore to Guantanamo. IMO these pompous asshats are more of a threat to the future of the U.S than any of the enemy combatants imprisoned there now.
It's their journalistic responsibility to ask questions of the filmmakers, not slobber all over them. Any respectable old-school journalist would've taken one look at that film [[with all the patronizing voice-overs) and that stupid pimp suit [[which was beyond patronizing, considering Fox's demographics) and known it didn't pass the stink test.
Also, assuming the American public is stupid and malleable. In any case Fox News is guilty of:
1) Not verifying the source.
2) Not retracting the story in the face of this overwhelming evidence of misreprisentation of the true story.
3) Not living up to their creed; "fair and balanced".
ACORN *could* sue for libel and defamation of character, but that's very hard to prove. Regardless, no lawsuit could undo the damage at this point. In the court of public opinion, the liars won. ACORN is out of business. If no action is coming from Fox, they should be hammered with lawsuits and their sponsors should be peppered with the truth, that they are funding a lie-machine.
This was part of a much bigger effort [[I'm almost inclined to say "vast right-wing conspiracy") to bring down ACORN, because they actually lent some voice and power to the poor and disenfranchised, and what right-winger wants the poor to have any power? Power and money in this country flow upward.
That link is a hair-splitting, twisted attempt to justify what the filmmakers did. The writer's premise is that ACORN was cleared because technically, no crime was committed. It's a very shaky premise that doesn't hold up. If that's true, how are undercover prostitution stings possible? Why did those Hutaree militiamen get arrested if all they were doing was talking about terrorist acts, but they didn't commit any? Why is drug paraphernalia illegal in the absence of actual drugs? And sure, the mainstream media also did their damage to ACORN. and they also should retract the story. Rachel Maddow did that for MSNBC. Furthermore I want to know what Andrew Breitbart's reaction is to the uncovered raw footage. He WAS aware of the excistance of that footage, as he is the one who pays a salary to O'Keefe. But that will be too much to ask... More filth here...
If there was some actual ACORN conspiracy, if there was some "there" there, charges would have been filed. The fact that the story is posted on Breitbart's site tells me they're desperatetly trying the CYA defense. They screwed up, but in the end they won because ACORN is done.
