There is a large parking lot to the side and front of the current Police HQ. Why not just build additional space there and connect it via underground or above ground tunnels? This would allow them to keep the current structure and fill a parking lot that scars downtown.....Now, the question of what about parking. Use both lots if they are concerned. Every land owners got a price, so I am sure the land can be bought.

Why the hell are we even talking about a new police HQ building? Sure, 1300 is old and rundown, but so what? City employees are being asked to make sacrifices, so why can't the police officials? Why do they need a gleaming new building? Why can't they make do with what they have?

The condition of 1300 Beaubien is far, far down the list of the police department's needs. So it isn't the freaking Ritz. So what? They should deal with it. Use that money to hire more officers.

One thing's for sure: you can bet wherever they move, someone's buddy will get a sweetheart deal on the building lease. That's how things work in Detroit.

Ironically, I think the older building is more like the "Ritz" than the bland-looking casino. Not like we can use the name "Ritz" in Detroit, anymore. But it's an infrastructure thing, not cosmetic.
