I wish that large concrete parking lot "formation" in front of the Scott Fountain would get lost.

Absolutely. I look out my window and where I used to see green all I see is sun-baked empty pavement, like a damn shopping mall. Since Penske isn't having his race there anymore he really needs to come back and get that ugly thing out of there.
Well, someone in prison did mention that Jimmy Hoffa might be buried under that slab of concrete.
Does anyone remember the jet fighter shell that was in a playground in the late '50's? If I remember right it was either an F-80 Shooting Star or the trainer T-33 Shooting Star. I just remember that as a small kid I could crawl right up the engine air intakes.
Now I that sounds cool. Anybody got pics of that???
I remember the plane. I think it might have been an F-84 or F-86, I remember swept wings - the Shooting Stars had straight wings.
Here's what I have on it from the 1950s:
"W.K. Muir Memorial Drinking Fountain
Location: Belle Isle - near Casino
Designed: Harrison Granite Co.
Description: Barre, Vermont Granite. Fountain surmounted with granite arch.
Costs, Dedications, etc. Erected in 1896. Estimated cost - $3,000"
Then next to it in flowing script someone penciled in: "[[Gone - No one can recall this or when removed.)" A Detroit mystery!
I remember the jet! It was a display model of some kind on a pedestal. It would still be there if not for the vandals. They kept adding and adding parts to it until one day all it needed was a tank of gas. And that’s what happened: someone filled ‘er up, and since the keys were in it, they flew it away. That is why Belle Isle was once known as “Aircraft Island”
