Interesting pic found in WSU Virtual Motor City collction...
Cool pic Bluenote. This must have been for winning the AL Championship. The Tigers lost to the famed St. Louis Cardinals "Gas House Gang" that year in the WS.
This Series was famous for an incident that happned in Game 7. Joe [[Ducky) Medwick went into third hard and spiked 3rd baseman Marv Owen which resulted in a scuffle. The next inning when Medwick tried to take the field he was greeted by a pelting of anything availabe in the stands from Detroit fans. The Cardnials we leading 9-0 at the time and the Commissioner Judge Kennisaw Mountain Landis ordered both Medwick and Owen benched to end the fracus.
The shortstop on the 34 Tigers was "Fireman Billy" Rogell who was a Detroit City Councilman for many years after the end of his playing career.Cool pic Bluenote.
