Back in the 60's & 70's when my mother needed something really fancy with lots of beads, pearls, and sequins, which she loved wearing, she went to B. Siegel's on the Ave. of Fashion. Even though we lived on the Eastside when she needed something special that's where she went. She always bought the outfit she was going to wear to the NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner. On the way home she would always say..."I bet there's not one beaded gown left on the Avenue of Fashion."

I think too much attention is focused on the Midtown area and hardly no attention is focus on the revitalization of the Ave of Fashion. I know that it is not downtown but it could be a smaller downtown for that area. It is ripe for pedestrial traffic and walkability. Independent boutiques and specialty store could pop up on the strip show the talents of local enterpreneurs who cater to the many tastes of shoppers. I think that there are too many wigs, african braids, barber shops, and beauty supply stores that lined the avenue. More stores need to open that will draw out consumers who have different tastes than what is on the Ave.
