Here is a solution. Merge the transit center with the suburban transit so smart could share in the responsibility of running the facility. Make the center regional so smart busses could pull inside the center instead of the outskirts of it. You would have more transit security for smart will help pay for the tab. Let Oalkland, Macomb, and others counties share in the operation of the facility including the cost of security. Have the flat screen t.v show CNN or Fox News only so riders could watch t.v while they wait for their bus. DONT put the T.V on anyother channels. We don't want undesirables hanging out getting a free movie. Have strict security that would remind people of an occupying force. That way you could put a restuarant in the facility and ridership would increase on the busses and the center would be fully used for it would be a safe haven for people to wait for their bus and have a snack while doing it.
I would have to agree. This would have to be put before city council since the city still owns the facility. Also, there must be a way that all downtown buses whether they are SMART or DDOT can use all of the bus bays available.
stasu1213, An occupuying force? I'm sure a guard or two would suffice. This isn't Iraq for God sakes!!!!
That's a guard or two more than we had in Capital Park, aka "The REAL Trapper's alley."
