It's startling to me everytime I visit my friends on the canal. To an out-of-towner, it completely defies logic. For that matter, to me, it completely defies logic.
Defies logic? Not really. It's nothing more than the difference between law enforcement and lawlessness.

Lived on Wayburn [[1rst st. in Grosse Pointe in from Alter) for a couple of years - the GPP police were fantastic. Never had any issue and they responded quickly to anytime I called regarding beggars etc. Their actually referred to as the Border Patrol by many down there. Miss being stumbling distance from the Tap Room... *sigh*

Here are a couple of pictures from days gone by [[both taken in July 2001). The entrance to the old trailer park and also the store just over the bridge from Alter.

The green house on Scripps is "pending". I really didn't see much on the river offered for sale.

You're kidding. Not that those two pics look like a fantastic area or anything, but how in less than a decade that everything is gone from an area like that is mindblowing. I so wish I was old enough to see this city before it took it's nosedive.

Everything over in this area is for sale.

I saw somewhere a posting for the trailer park property asking $2.3 million. However this posting has it for $900k http://www.trulia.com/foreclosure/20...troit-MI-48215

There is this house at the corner of Alter and Riverside.

The same guy selling the house, also owns the boat launch and the fire damaged store/marina. All three can be yours for the low low price of $1,000,000.

Looks like a beautiful house, but $200K for this market and that neighborhood seems kind of steep. I'd be interested to see if it sells, and at what price.

I worked at that marina and use to live next door before the house burned down.
