Also, as far as a cultural center, Royal Joke isn't much. Not much more than pontiac which has the Crofoot. Maybe it is compared to other burbs, but it aint nothing thar special when compared to say Midtown for example, or even Dearborn. Sure they got the Main art which plays mainstream indie flicks, and the RO Music Theatre which has some mainstream shows, and a couple galleries. But besides that, there really isn't much. You have to go to the city to find the real underground and cutting edge culture... RIC, DFT, Burton, all the various DIY venues, the artist colonlys, etc.

Ignoring all of the problems I find in your rant, I am left to wonder what the point of it was. This is an Oakland County event, and DDad's equally head-scratching post seemed to suggest that either Pontiac, or maybe some other place [[like Detroit) was more of a cultural/urban center than RO. The former just isn't by any number of measures, and the latter is completely irrelevant to the topic. You seem to want Royal Oak to "rue the day" that anyone thought that it was a decent, vibrant place to be. How stupid. No shit it'd be nice if it happened in Detroit, and no shit it would be much bigger than RO. Again, what is the point?

Casscorridor doesn't know the etymology of "Royal Joke". It was called "Royal Joke" because as my dad, who also grew up here, says, "In the 1970s you could throw a dead rabbit in downtown Royal Oak at 5 pm on a Wednesday and you wouldn't hit a soul." You could do that today, hit about 20 people and get arrested.

Some people are very self-righteous with their anti-suburb or anti-city sentiments. Like it's something to gloat about. No, it's rather divisive. I love the city. I would prefer to live in the city, I don't have the resources right now to do so. But hey, if you like the suburbs, I'm not going to dislike you. Or if you love the country.

I'm saying parts of Detroit are already more vibrant than [downtown] RO. I'm here every day, and have been watching the vibrancy slowly build over the past three years. This fall there are more students living on/near campus [[wsu/ccs) than ever before. And the buisiness climate is far better, to the point that a recent transplant to Woodbridge starts a once a week home pick-up restaurant thing and has dozens of orders and a Freepress and Metrotimes article before the first day. Everyone wants to jump on any new business that starts up. Like the Taco Truck at Third Bar which so far underestimated their demand that there is 45min waits and they had to bump their closing time up from 11pm to 2am. I've never seen people so enthusiastic and supportive of new ventures than in Detroit. And almost anyone can start something up. All it takes is an idea, ambition and good old fashioned hard work. I don't think there is a better place to start a new business than central Detroit.

I finally got my parking pass. It wasn't easy and I hope it's worth it. $15 to park. Unbelieveable.

Workers in downtown Royal Oak are being jerked around like crazy. The women who work at Write Impressions had their bag lunches confiscated because in Wirtzville, you can only eat ABE food.

I commented early on in this thread that I thought A,B & E WAS NOT the proper venue to be carrying weapons at, but I'll be damned if I'll let a communist/socialist who clearly hates this country as ORDB does stomp all over the rights of other people to do so without saying something in response to her vitrol. It is a matter of law, and if she wishes to demean legally law abiding people by calling them "scumbags" then she can live with the consequences.

Perhaps you haven't seen her picture standing in front of the Capitol Building, flipping the institution the bird? I trend toward the liberal causes most times, but I believe that guns have a place in society. DB's like the open carry people are strictly attention getters. I'm considering a permit for CCW, though, and would take it with me when I go places. Times are rough all over. A conservative does NOT have the freaking franchise on gun ownership.

And liberals don't tell people how to vote? That is laughable. Anyway, if someone suggests you vote a particular way [[be they conservative or liberal) once you're in the voting booth the choice is ultimately up to you. You do have the right to vote however you wish.

The last administration did not mold the Constitution at all. The last molding of the Constitution took place on May 7, 1992 when the 27th amendment was ratified. That happened to be during the Bill Clinton Presidency.
