Biden had a Coney dog, no onions, Diet Coke. He ate his by hand. The Governor ate hers with a fork, dainty-style. Biden pulled out a $100 to pay and said he'd even buy the press a dog.
Most newspapers report they ate "chili dogs" which is so stupid because they were eating Coneys as we all know.

Biden: "gimme one, no onions, Diet Coke, no fork, extra napkins. Gimme the bill and buy some for the asshats wi-da cameras."

jjaba, at the Lafayette at a table near the action.

One time Shrub was in the area they had a long stretch of I-275 closed, in both directions, with local manpower standing watch on the overpasses, for hours until Shrub got out of the way.

It was strange to look down on a completely empty I-275 at Warren around rush hour.

I think I read that the purpose of the trip was a Democratic fundraiser, in which case the DNC is required to pick up the tab for anything over an above his regular security detail, including travel costs.

It was the same thing when Bush was campaigning for reelection. He got to fly airforce one to all his campaign stops, but the RNC had to pick up the tab if the purpose of the trip had to do with the election.

Alley, explain this, heard at The Lafayette near VP Biden.

"Order up, two on one, one loose, Vernors, no Pepsi, no fries, one chili cheese fry, lite onions on the loose, mustard on side, apple-a-pie ala mode." [[Fahrtoosh, Yemini Counterman.)

    jjaba, at The Lafayette.

According to Fox News???? Don't you realize that Fox is not news, but biased commentary and outright lies? This particular one is an outright lie, the truth is what you responded to... they have been closing the area where the President/Vice President is since JFK.

The photos in the news sure looked strange with nobody but a Governor and Vice President seated in an empty Lafayette. jjaba often sits at the counter in the exact same spot but there are customers climbing all over the place. For all's we know, that could have been a Queen's New York Stage set. They could have atleast put Fartoosh, the Yemini counterman in the picture for crissakes, as a show of authenticity.

Our tax dollars have been in CONSTANT USE for decades...
I try to get a photo of the motorcade when the President visits Chicago. There is no parking on both sides of the street of the entire motorcade route.

Not Alley, but I'll take a shot...

    1. I'm not sure this is unique to Detroit... a Greasy Spoon is a neighborhood diner that serves primarily fried foods.

    2. Blind Pig is a prohibition term for speakeasy's that the cops turned a blind eye to. A Detroit Blind Pig is an after hours bar.

    3. Guessing: going downtown?

    4. Tiger Stadium.

    5. Easy one. He's a former paster of Most Holy Trinity. Best known for his ministry toward Native Americans... this is easy because I've a good deal of Blackfoot blood.

    6. Another argument against Drug Prohibition. The Purple Gang were a group of <mostly> Jewish folks who brutalized Detroit during Alcohol Prohibition, getting rich running booze from Canada.

Lloyd, great job. The onliest item you missed was a student's answer on where do you go to college? [[I goes down to Wayne.) The word "down" refers to going South or "down" on a map.

In jjaba's case, he rode the Dexter bus down to Wayne State University in the 1960s.
Good work on the instant trivia questions.
    jjaba.
ps. jjaba can tell that most Detroiters would have gone "down" to Hudsons, down to the Fisher Bldg., down to Cass. Tech, etc. jjaba lived "out" along Grand River and went "up" to the State Fair.

Thanks. Pretty easy questions for someone raised in Detroit <Beaconsfield between Mack and Warren>. While I currently live in New Jersey, with stops in Florida and South Carolina since I left, I remain a Detroiter at heart. As far as the bus ride.... I might have shared that bus with you in the '60's but the one I remember went right to the ticket booth at Tiger Stadium. Let's see... 10 cents for the bus ride there, a buck for the bleachers, another buck for a hot dog and a pop, then 10 cents for the ride home. Damnest thing about that is $2.20 was big money back then, I delivered the Free Press every morning before the sun came up for that privilege of making that trip an afternoon or two a week.

Still a few Purple Gang safehouses remaining. Secret compartments and passages ways, and tunnels leading from basements. Pretty cool stuff
