Very good one Rb...on many levels, not the least of which is a self deprecating element.

Gardening and, just after sunrise, picking ingredients for a fresh salad at lunch.
Later in Summer, picking tomatoes and making some of the best sauce this side of the Atlantic.
All of this precedes a good nap on the deck at mid-day. ;-)

    RB, LOL!

Are you talking about how he used to keep snowballs frozen in the his fridge to utilize in the middle of the summer?

Believe it or not, playing hockey. Nothing like coming out of the rink in shorts on a hot evening and pounding a few brews in the parking lot.

    Joys of summer:
Tiger game on a warm day.
North end of Belle Isle, watching the ships.
    Outdoor concerts.
    Eastern Market, Saturday morning.
    Fireworks over the River.
Jumping into the cold Great Lakes on a hot afternoon...my favorite: Lake Huron, [[Oscoda, Grand Bend, Ipperwash Beach, Sauble Beach)
Just smelling the ribs cooking....then devouring them with coleslaw on the chin and Molson's to wash it all down.

A peaceful summer wish to all!

I respect DDT for it's contribution to the health of human beings [[I don't know that I would use the term "lover"), and I am not at all scared of Mosquitos as they exist today.

I wouldn''t worry about rats either, the population is only in the billions and the diseases they carry only affect a small percentage of the population, mostly poor. Nothing to be concerned about.

Yeppers, I want a physician like Cc, who has all the answers, despite any evidence contrary to his opinion.

To be expected, guess it is easier to accept a death as a statistic instead of the tragedy it is.

I tend to frequent the Metroparks. Also the Movement Festival at Hart Plaza, Tigers games when I can, and often a trip to Lake Manistique in the U.P. where my grandmother owns a log cabin. Other than that, frequent backyard fires and occasional camping trips.

Why does seemingly every thread have to turn into a response to ccbatson's dumbass one-liners?

My favorite summer activity is eating peaches. ZOMG, do I love peaches. I had a Michigan-peach epiphany two summers ago.

For something Detroit-related, perhaps I'd say riding laps of Belle Isle early on a weekend morning. Unfortunately I can no longer do this [[don't live in MI) but I miss it. I should have a chance next weekend.

I just wanted to get this going again. I was out on the river in the kayak this morning and the weather was perfect.

In my last few years in the area before leaving the state for good almost a decade ago, I lived in Grosse Pointe Woods, so summer for me was DEFINED by the opening of the city pool at Lakefront Park. Then when it shut down after Labor Day I would go into a state of depression. Every year I used to count down the 260-plus days between Labor Day and Memorial Day Weekend. I used to really crack up my colleagues when I would tell them "Only 263 days left!" and they would know exactly what I was talking about!!!!

When I was a young kid my summertime favorite was going to Metropolitan Beach.

And another favorite - and one that endures as a favorite to this day - is bike riding. The best part of all is now I live in Arizona and I can go out and ride and run almost every day of the year without even worrying to look out the window to try to figure out the weather in advance. With the exception of maybe half a dozen days a year, I KNOW the weather's going to be good.

I've been spoiled out here. I wouldn't be able to last a week in Michigan anymore. On the rare occasions when we have more than two consecutive days of clouds down here, I go nuts!
