State funding [[which includes revenue sharing, funding for the library, transportation funding, etc.) is 12.23% of Detroit's total revenue.

The rest [[82.97%) is from income tax, property tax, sales, fees, inspections, federal grants, etc.

Precisely where the State will start cutting. They've got to make up a 1.2 billion deficit somewhere. May as well balance the budget on the backs of the cities, they've been doing it for years.

I strongly disagree with this remark:

"To many people, a healthy and thriving Detroit that attracts people and business does nothing for Oakland county. The competition of a well run, world-class city with a gorgeous riverfront is something that likely scares the hell out of someone in the position of Patterson. Patterson's job is to do whatever he can to make Oakland County thrive. Keeping Detroit just ahead of the wrecking ball is at Oakland County's advantage."

I can say from my own personal first hand experience that this is not true. Most of the leadership of OC was born in or used to live in Detroit. The destruction of this once proud city has been 40 years of pain for them. Most would be thrilled to see the city "come back" and many have tried for years to help.

Do you honestly think the people of the suburbs would forgo having a successful central city like Chicago so that the landlords of suburan office complexes continue to make rent? They would give ANYTHING to see Detroit come back. Certainly, Detroit's collapse has had devastating consquences to the suburbs, not the least of which is watching an entire generation of children and grandchildren leave.

If you sense resignation and bitterness from them, it is driven by their perception that the city's gross mis-managment has accellerated its decline.

Spoken like someone who is not living in Detroit or Oakland County.

Crawford, your nothing more than another armchair pseudo-economist, pretending to know all the answers, step aside sonny, you have no solutions to offer.
