Default City of Windsor making plans to celebrate NFL Draft in Detroit

Hopefully this will bring a much needed infusion of business activity into Windsor's struggling downtown. City Of Windsor Plans Local Celebration To Mark NFL Draft In Detroit | windsoriteDOTca News - windsor ontario's neighbourhood newspaper windsoriteDOTca News

"Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island anticipates all 1,800 hotel rooms in the downtown core to be fully booked for the duration of the NFL Draft, and Transit Windsor will be extending its hours of operation to shuttle football enthusiasts to and from the celebrations across the river. The influx of visitors is expected to generate substantial economic benefits for the region while promoting downtown Windsor as a vibrant hub for event attraction."

Great to see Windsor benefit from the event. Too bad we, as old friends and allies, don't have an open border, like old enemies and opponents France and Germany do, so Windsor could benefit like this all the time.

Sorry but downtown Windsor looks worse than downtown Detroit in the 80's-90's. It's not a vibrant hub for anything.

But yet houses sell for $500k and up and even though a million will buy you a somewhat cool multi story building downtown it appears to be nothing like downtown Detroit was in the 80s 90s where you could buy a high rise for a couple of million.

They have included free events,so a destination, somebody that maybe overwhelmed by Detroit,it may appeal to them in a more intimate setting.

Or they can just throw up their hands and say screw it,we are not very vibrant let’s just do nothing,if people had said that back then in downtown Detroit it would not have laid the foundation for today.

Its 1800 rooms available,it’s not like they are going to be swarmed with uncontrollable crowds that would be expensive to control,it’s something they are doing to draw interest without spending millions, good for them for being proactive.

I hope it is a productive and safe event for both cities, and I do not even like football.

Windsor should really do a renovation on Ouelette Avenue and give out facade grants/loans to make storefronts more attractive. If Detroit can do this on Livernois no reason Windsor want.

It's sad. I used to stay in Windsor in the '70's when every store was occupied and there were many nice restaurants. Like almost every small town and city in southern Ontario Walmart and the malls took over and the homeless and drug addicts moved in. Downtown London, Ontario looks almost the same now and that's a city of 400,000.
