66th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade

Why: A tradition since 1958, the event typically draws between 80,000-100,000 people to celebrate the Irish heritage of Corktown, which was named after Ireland’s County Cork and is Detroit’s oldest neighborhood. It’s one of the biggest Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations in the U.S.

Why: To showcase Detroit’s fashion scene.


International Women’s Day Shopping Experience
When: March 8 from 5-9 p.m.
Where: The Norwood
What: An evening celebrating women-owned businesses
Who: Local Detroit bosses
Why: There will be a wide range of products and services offered by Detroit women entrepreneurs and businesses. Plus, all guests will receive professional headshots and all ticket proceeds will go toward a small business grant for one vendor featured at the shopping experience. Tickets are just $5 on Eventbrite.


The pre-pARTy [[Fundraiser for the pARTy)

Where: Tangent Gallery
What: A fundraiser and art party
Who: Local artists and art lovers, curated by @theparty.events and @thegallerysociety
Why: This party is a fundraiser for the upcoming pARTy. At the event, Tangent Gallery will introduce its nonprofit partner Art In Session, educating the community on initiatives including a community art gallery, workshop space, and educational-based grants. There will be music, performances, live artists, vendors, art auctions, and more.

Why: The Egyptian-American comedian is known for his searing commentary on the Middle East, and was named one of the “100 most influential people in the world” by Time magazine in 2013.


Detroit Youth Poetry Con
When: March 9 from 9:30 a.m.- 8:30 p.m.
Where: Wayne State University Student Center
What: A day-long workshop series
Who: Detroit youth and professional writers
Why: Michigan Poet Laureate Nandi Comer is one of this year’s featured writers alongside best-selling author Ross Gay. The two will host creative writing workshops and community building activities for teens ages 13-19.


Rising Star Jazz Horn Competition
When: March 9 from 2-4 p.m.
Where: Aretha’s Jazz Cafe
What: A jazz competition and fundraiser
Who: Local jazz performers and enthusiasts
Why: The first place winner will perform with the All Star Band at the Michigan Jazz Festival on July 21. The five finalists will perform before a panel of judges. Food and drinks will be available.


Stripped: Brandon Altman Solo Exhibition Closing Reception
