At times in my life including while attending university, I lived in the People's Republic of Cambridge, MA. There were daily cultural events in Cambridge and Boston such as concerts, lectures, films, plays, museums, galleries, poetry readings, teach-ins, etc., not to mention restaurants with every sort of food and clubs with every sort of music. There so much was happening daily that it would make one's head spin trying to decide what to do. When I came back to Detroit for family reasons, I actually wanted to sob. Yes, there are a few things happening here, but it's not a cultural paradise.

Good find. I think it is as much a summary of the Detroit jazz scene as it is about Motown. Motown as a music genre has moved on but jazz rolls on. It was there before Motown as detailed in Lars Bjorn and Jim Gallert's Before Motown: A History of Jazz in Detroit, 1920-60 and its here after.
